Okay, its day two of 2025 and how are we feeling? We got through the excitement of New Year’s Eve and, for some of us, the panic of the first day of a new year and thinking of all of those new goals we want to set. Now it’s time to settle in.

Everyone had such a different experience in 2024, with many leaving it behind with a “good riddance” as a year that brought on personal struggles, loss, and numerous kinds of hardship. Others gave a wave, blew a kiss and will cherish the memories and growth from the year. I’d like to think that I relate more to the latter – and it could be that there was so much good that it makes the hard easy to forget. It could also be the fact that I had made Christmas my entire personality for the last 45 days and I am the type of person who absolutely thrives in the chaos and busyness of it all!

But on that note…the holiday-decor rage cleaning is about to COMMENCE this weekend! 2024 was the first year that we decided to decorate for Christmas early, after the 2023 holiday season just seemed to go by too quickly. In previous years we had gotten started right after Thanksgiving but since that didn’t feel like enough time, in 2024 we finally broke down and got a fake tree the first weekend in November and got decorated ASAP! But in those last few weeks of December it still felt like “so much to do, so little time” and then suddenly it was all over and still felt too quick.

Now we’re at the meat of it: what are we all doing for 2025? This year I’ve been hearing a lot of people say that their resolutions or goals are going to be to really step into rest and self-care, or slowing down. I love that we’re taking a little step back from the *all grind all the time* mentality. Not to say that the work doesn’t matter though; this year I’ve felt the most laid back during New Years Resolution time and I credit that strongly to the fact that I already have some really good systems in place for a lot of the items that are considered traditional resolutions like finances and nutrition.

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely had a word-vomit of “am I doing enough?” to a couple of girlfriends earlier on New Years Eve, and if you need to hear it: that is totally normal and totally okay! A quote from @scarymommy for resolutions as a mom really stuck out to me as well: “Reminder that your kids are watching you make New Years resolutions…with my kids, I try to make resolutions that are based in fun stuff and learning…Resolutions don’t have to be about self-improvement or self-punishment. They can just add color and joy to your year.”

I think it’s still amazing to have goals of improving your weight or health, but encourage everyone to do so with more self-kindness and a final goal beyond the scale. I’d love to improve my functional strength so it’s easier to carry my ever-growing children whenever they need me and have a healthy pregnancy (oh yea, did you miss that BABY #3 IS ON THE WAY?). Maybe I’ll start wearing more real clothes and less sweats because it makes me feel more confident. I want to do more from-scratch cooking vs dwindling down that calorie count. I’ll get more quality rest so I can be more present during the day, even if it means I’m not awake at 5am like the rest of the “are you even working if you’re not up before the sun” squad.

So this year it’s a New Year, Same Me and I couldn’t be prouder. Below are a list of my intentions for 2025:

  • Keep doing the things that are already working! Prioritizing my family and continuing to utilize the systems for my finances, nutrition/health, work and relationships
  • Continue the ever-tough battle of time management (I think I have great time management, so this is my fancy way of saying I want to do more with the same amount of time)
  • Focus on a few specific personal projects…one of those being revitalizing Strength and Grits!

I’d love to hear some of your goals for 2025 in the comments below!
