First Trimester, Month Two, Week 5
This week was such a roller coaster of excitement with our newfound pregnancy news! One thing I had failed to mention is that while I was all but throwing my pregnancy test into Jon’s hands, his mom and our other two daughters were sleeping in their rooms upstairs, so keeping a straight face the next morning was no easy task. I’m still not feeling any different, looking any different, etc. so everything so far has just been the big mental shift of the impending changes! The timing couldn’t have been any more ironic when she had even asked the following day in super casual conversation if we thought we wanted more children and I had to throw out an “oh one day, definitely” without cracking a smile.
One thing that has felt so crazy to me is just how differently I look at the girls when the emotions (or hormones) hit me just right. Like are you really telling me that Sophia was only 10 months old when my pregnancy journey began? We had just been talking about how big she seemed to be getting and how quick time was passing; getting pregnant again had been a discussion for what felt like quite some time. And suddenly I look at her and here is this teeny tiny baby! Did we give her enough time to be the baby of the family? What will it be like to bring home another baby and she’s only 19 months old?
While that twinge of mom guilt would’ve found some way to creep up on me no matter what, the excitement greatly overshadowed any nerves or guilt I had. We carried on with all of our already-planned activities for the week – library visits, playdates with baby friends, walks in the park. The day Jon got back, we did take the girls to the pumpkin patch which was so much fun, even though it happened to be the freak day in October that it ended up being 85 degrees and sunny so we didn’t get your standard *fall vibes* that day but still loved it.
