First Trimester, Month Two, Week 6
And right on cue, pregnancy symptoms came on full force right at the start of week 6! With my other two pregnancies, I realized something might be up when I started gagging while brushing my teeth and flossing, and this time was no different. One of my biggest “tricks” for not getting choked up brushing my teeth is as simple as spitting frequently – I only start to get gaggy if there’s a lot of foam or bubbles in my mouth. So instead of waiting to spit at the end, I’ll pause frequently (yes, it’s so simple that it sounds stupid); the only hope I have for my back molars is to just do what I can and get back into flossing them once the first trimester ends.
I’m experiencing some of the typical nausea and fatigue that comes along with this time. Other common symptoms I have experienced in my pregnancies are a stuffy nose upon waking and irregularities in the bathroom, with this time being no exception. Overall, everything is feeling manageable enough that our day to day is mainly undisrupted and life is moving along with our usual activities and routine. I am definitely finding myself wanting to lay in bed and lounge or sleep after we put the girls to bed, which is hard because that is really the only time I feel like I get to spend with my husband during the week, and I don’t want to miss out on that either!
I did put away my plans for an early bed time to sneak away for one night this weekend for a post-elopement celebration for the Kings! I was a little nervous about being found out or saying something or doing something that would give away that I was pregnant, but focused on one thing at a time. I survived the 5 hour drive, with only that last hour being a little uncomfortable – TBD if that was pregnancy related or just the standard for a long car ride. Upon arrival I set straight to work setting up for the party; although secretly hoping for a nap, this ended up being a huge blessing because had I stopped moving it would’ve felt harder to get going again. The party was a smash, and I slept harder than I had in weeks before making the trek home in the morning!
